Public rights of way are footpaths, bridleways and byways which have public access. They are protected by law. These paths are shown on a map and have a written description in a legal record called the Definitive Map and Statement.

There are a number of Public Rights of Way that EBGBS are aware of and working to resolve issues arising.
These include:
Shenley Footpath 3
The current diversion application for Shenley footpath 3 is being dealt with by Hertsmere BC, as landowner. Therefore they are better to comment on this. The plan below may assist (with the approximate new route in orange), but as with any diversion order, the legal path line has to remain open and available, until the legal order to change it has been confirmed.

Tykeswater Lane (Byways 60 and 79)
These are already legally Open to All Traffic, therefore any change to this has to be via a legal order. In 2020 we consulted on an order to restrict 4x4 motor vehicle use on the route, but as this received local objections we could not proceed. We hope to shortly consult on a new order to restrict all motor vehicle and horse drawn carriage access, except permit holders. It is hoped that this does not receive objections and a Highways roadside safety audit can allow structures to enforce this. This will then enable us to carry out substantial improvement works to the route.
